PECO 4941

Advantages

    • Superior corrosion inhibition for steel and copper. Minimize white rust on galvanized metal with good pH control.
    • Complete control of hardness based deposits on heat exchange and cooling tower evaporative surfaces.
    • Excellent dispersive control of suspended debris, iron, calcium phosphonate, calcium carbonate and organic matter.
    • Superior control in low water turnover systems.

PECO 4941 is a highly concentrated liquid formulation that address all aspects of corrosion and deposit control in HVAC and process cooling water systems. PECO 4941 employs state-of-the-art stabilized phosphonate technology yielding significantly improved high temperature hardness stabilization. PECO 4941 includes specialized phosphonates for control of pitting corrosion of steel, and tolytriazole, a highly efficient corrosion inhibitor for copper and its alloys.

The polymer stabilized phosphonate technology employed is designed to control calcium carbonate, CaCO3, scale and sludge in cooling tower water with up to 1200 ppm of hardness as CaCO3. If higher levels of hardness must be stabilized, sulfuric acid may be used to safely allow maintenance of 4000 ppm of hardness or more.

PECO 4941 contains two polymeric dispersants designed to suspend captured air-borne debris, hardness precipitants, iron oxide, and organic debris. Good particulate dispersion is critical in controlling sludge and sediment accumulation in cooling towers. This is especially true where cooling water remains in a system over an extended period of time due to very slow turnover. One of the polymers in PECO 4941 is a unique traceable polymer permitting diagnostic testing for free, unabsorbed dispersant and insight into polymeric interaction with particulate matter.

Dosage

The dosage of PECO 4941 is normally 360 ppm or from 1.0to 2.5 pounds per 1000 gallons of make-up water to the Cooling Tower, depending upon the operating conditions and stress pou on the system. PECO 4941 will stabilize up o 1200 ppm of tower water total hardness at 95°F with a dosage of 1.0 per 1000 gallons of make-up. For temperatures between 95 to 115°F dosage is 1.5 pounds per 1000 gallons of make-up water and hardness should not exceed 1000 ppm. Above 115°F or for very low water turnover conditions, dosage should be between 1.5 and 2.5 pounds per 1000 gallons make-up and hardness should be limited to 800 ppm Max.

(Normally, is hardness and alkalinity in the make-up water are roughly equal try to hold the hardness to no more than 800 ppm. “M” Alkalinity should be between 550 – 600 and “P” Alkalinity below 100 ppm.)

If Sulfuric acid is used to assist in controlling scale and sludge formation tower water hardness may be allowed to reach 4000 ppm. To determine maximum permissible cycles of concentration, divide 4000 by the make-up water hardness. The value should be at least 5, but no more than 8. To avoid excessive holding time, cycles of concentration in excess of 8 should be avoided unless the make-up hardness is less than 100 ppm.

Testing

The dosage of the 4941 can be monitored using a simple drop test for organ0-phosphate. The recommended control range for 4941 is 13-15 drops.
